The robots that will be on display at Fan Fest are those that have been built and recognized as part of the organization’s robotics build competitions. The annual Bayou Classic meeting with Grambling will make its return to New Orleans on Nov. 27, and rematches with McNeese State and Florida A&M are among five home games highlighting the Jaguars’ 2021 fall schedule, the school announced Monday. Each year, this weekend of events brings together family, friends and alumni of Southern University and Grambling State University to see one of America’s greatest college sports rivalries and celebrate football, family and the traditions surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The Bayou Classic returns to New Orleans for its 49th year with its series of fan and family-friendly events throughout the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend. Each year, this weekend of events brings together family, friends and alumni of Grambling State University and Southern University to see one of America’s greatest college sports rivalries and celebrate football, family and the traditions surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities . The Bayou Classic is a major source of revenue ($50 million) to the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. 250,000 visitors descend upon New Orleans over the course of the events leading up to the game, and the national television audience has attracted between four and five million viewers. The success of the game has inspired the promotion of numerous other HBCU classics.

This national anthem performance is fueling the kickstart of this all-star band after a period of forced dormancy following the pandemic outbreak. This new event that has been added to the family of annual Bayou Classic events is a showcase of African American-owned small and emerging businesses within the state of Louisiana to promote economic growth and utilization by the state’s business community and organizations. More than 40 African American-owned small and emerging businesses from across the state will be in attendance. The Bayou Classic kicked off Monday with several events leading up to the much-anticipated rivalry game between Grambling State and Southern University. The 46th Annual Bayou Classic is just around the corner with all the traditional events and some new ways to make the season unforgettable! What’s impressive about it is in the past six games, GSU has faced explosive offenses like Alabama A&M, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and, arguably, the defense’s top performance was limiting Alcorn State to just 16 points in the overtime win. On Game Day, the Grambling Marching Tigers and the Southern Human Jukebox lead the annual Bayou Classic Thanksgiving Day Parade from the Superdome to the French Market. The parade showcases floats, marching bands, military units, alumni groups, motorized units and elements of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, New Orleans’ oldest predominantly African-American Mardi Gras parading organization.

For the fifth straight season, the Southwestern Athletic Conference West division title and a berth in the conference championship game is on the line between the Tigers (6-4, 4-2) and Jaguars (7-4, 5-1).

Southern will end the 2021 fall season with consecutive games against its three biggest rivals — FAMU (Nov. 6), Jackson State (Nov. 13) at home, then Grambling in New Orleans. Bayou Classic fans may also purchase tickets for the ever-popular Battle of the Bands & Greek Show to be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Caesars Superdome. The new agreement — which kicks off this year with the 49th annual Bayou Classic as Southern and Grambling State renew their storied football rivalry on Saturday, Nov. 26 on NBC and Peacock — extends a historic partnership which began in 1991. Florida A&M, which is joining the SWAC next season, was among the MEAC schools that opted out of the conference's spring season, forcing the conference to abandon league play for the spring. The G-Men’s rushing attack will need to have its best game this season to afford the team its best chance against Southern’s stifling rush defense. The Jags sport the best rush defense in the conference, holding offenses to 121 rushing yards and have only surrendered 14 scores on the ground. When it has matched up with other top run defenses in the league — Alcorn State, UAPB and Prairie View A&M — Grambling State has averaged 2.9 yards per rush and notched four rushing touchdowns.

The spring Bayou Classic will be April 17 in Shreveport as part of Southern’s seven-game, SWAC-only spring schedule, which begins Feb. 26 at Alabama State. The game was moved to Independence Stadium in Shreveport because of scheduling difficulties with the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in April. Attendees to all events inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome must adhere to the stadium’s Clear Bag Policy. Please read and ensure that you are in compliance before visiting the Superdome. Every Thanksgiving weekend, fans of both teams descend on the city, turning the French Quarter and downtown areas into seas of black and gold and blue and gold . In a lead up to the big game – the Bayou Clash – fans are treated to a parade and a Battle of the Bands. Then on Saturday after Thanksgiving, it all culminates at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome when the Tigers and the Jaguars go paw to paw.
Historically, Grambling State and Southern have arguably had the two most successful football teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Through the 2021 season, Grambling has more SWAC football titles than any other school ; Southern has the second most with 18. GSU and SU also have more black national titles than any other SWAC schools; as of 2021, Grambling has the second most in the entire country with 15 total, while SU has the fourth most at the FCS-level .

Southern will open its fall 2021 season Sept. 4 at Troy, then open its home schedule Sept. 11 in the Pete Richardson Classic against Miles College. The Southern football program kicks off its delayed 2020 season in a month, but that hasn’t stopped the school from setting up the 2021 fall season.
